VHS is concerned about the keeping of wild animals for public display, entertainment or as pets, as it deprives them of the ability to freely engage in natural behaviours in their native environment. Even when bred in captivity, exotic animals keep their instinctual behaviours and needs that are not easily met by caregivers, particularly in zoos and aquariums that have thousands of animals.
